点や曲線などを繰り返し描き、画面を覆い尽くすことで平面作品を制作してきた大和美緒が、株式会社島津製作所とコ ラボレーションするにあたり、計測機器、医用機器、航空機器、産業機器といった同社の持つ多様な製品や技術の中か ら関心を抱いたのは、分析計測技術でした。大和は同社の担当者からのアドヴァイスを受け、プランを練り上げ、デジ タル顕微鏡を用いて作品を制作しました。 壁面にかけられた夥しい数のガラス板には、光学顕微鏡によって観察された大和自身の血液細胞が、鮮烈な赤の絵具に よって描かれています。ガラス板ごとに絵具の大きさにいくらかのばらつきがあるのは、顕微鏡の倍率の差によるもの です。大和は、例えば、血液細胞の輪郭さえもはっきりと見て取れるほどの高倍率で観察したイメージを描く際には絵 具を粒状に盛り上げるなど、光学顕微鏡を通して得られたイメージを出来る限り忠実に描写しています。 偶然性を伴った極小のイメージを集合させることで、ひとつの全体を形作り、ダイナミックな運動を感じさせること。 この作品においては、自身の血液細胞のイメージをモティーフにしているという点において、大和のこれまでの作品に 見られるそうした特徴が、よりはっきりと現れています。私たちの目の前に広がるおびただしい数の赤い点の集合は、 顕微鏡が捉えた血液細胞の再現イメージであることを超えて、より広く私たちが「生命」と呼ぶものに備わる運動性を 感じさせてくれるでしょう。

Yamato Mio has been creating art works on plane surface with repetitive line and dots to cover the surface and collaborating with SHIMADZU CORPORATION, which has various products and technologies such as measuring technology, medical devices, aviation instruments, and industrial instruments. Yamato became interested in their analysis measurement technology among many of their technologies, and obtained advises, made a plan, and created the art using the digital microscope.

Blood cells of herself that are observed with optical microscope are expressed with vivid red paint on a voluminous number of glass plates on the wall. The reason why paint scale is different depends on the glass plate is because there was difference in magnifications. Yamato used paint to mount dots to draw image with high magnification in which you even see the outline of the blood cell, likewise she traces the image obtained with the scope faithfully. Yamato makes

a dynamic movement to create a whole perspective with tiny contingent image aggregations. Yamatoʼs characteristics are shown clearly in the art work to use her own blood cell as motif. The aggregations of numerous red dots in front of us are more than just reproduction of blood cell images but they also make us feel maneuverability that are inherently native for ʻlifeʼ.
